Heinz Schumann (artist)

Heinz Schumann (born June 11, 1934 in Chemnitz ) is a German graphic artist , commercial artist and type designer .

Life

Heinz Schumann completed an apprenticeship as a graphic draftsman from 1948 to 1951. From 1952 to 1957 he studied at the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst in Leipzig under Albert Kapr , Wolfgang Mattheuer , Hans Mayer-Foreyt in the field of commercial graphics, book design, lettering and typography. He then worked as a graphic designer at DEFA -Synchron Berlin-Johannisthal until 1959 . At the same time he was visiting lecturer for writing at the technical college for advertising and design in Berlin-Schöneweide . This was followed in the years 1959 to 1962, a postgraduate professor at the School of Visual Arts Leipzig with special training for the production of typographic fonts with Albert Kapr. Afterwards Schumann worked as a graphic designer for the Free Press Karl-Marx-Stadt and part-time as a lecturer for writing at the technical school for applied arts in Schneeberg. Since 1966 he has been working as a freelancer in Karl-Marx-Stadt and Chemnitz . In 1975/1976 Schumann was senior assistant at the Dresden University of Fine Arts . He was also a member of the Association of Visual Artists of the GDR .
