Stig Strömholm (born September 16, 1931 in Boden ) is a Swedish lawyer and university professor who is also known as a writer .

Life

Strömholm, who grew up in Uppsala , studied law at the Universities of Uppsala and Cambridge from 1952 (diploma in 1959) and received his doctorate in 1964 as a doctor of law in Munich as a Humboldt Foundation fellow . He was Professor of Law at Uppsala University from 1969 and Rector of the University from 1989 to 1997 . Strömholm also worked as a critic in the features section of Svenska Dagbladets and as a writer . He has published historical novels, essays and a volume of short stories.

Awards

In 1990 he was honored as a foreigner with the Finnish Academic Science Award (Tieteen akateemikko). Since 1980 he has been an external member of the Finnish Academy of Sciences . A commemorative publication was published on his retirement in 1997 . Strömholm has been awarded the German Pour le Mérite (Peace Class) order and the Gunnerus Medal of the Royal Norwegian Society of Sciences. He has been a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences since 1989 and was chairman of the Kungliga Vitterhets Historie och Antikvitets Academies from 1985 to 1993 . He is an external member of the Norwegian Academy of Sciences and the Accademia dei Lincei . In November 1991 the asteroid (4310) Strömholm was named after him. In 2004 he received the Erasmus Medal of the Academia Europaea . In 2012 he was awarded the Order of the Seraphine by the Swedish King .
