Like his great compatriot Ingemar Stenmark, Strand comes from the small Swedish town of Tärnaby and was also active as a slalom driver. In the 1982/83 season , the two Swedish skiers also managed to achieve 110 points each at the end of the Slalom World Cup , with Strand winning the last slalom of the season (March 20, 1983 in Furano ), the number of points in this race retired compatriots equalized. Stenmark only won the title because he had won more races.
During his time in the Ski World Cup, which lasted from 1975 to 1984, Strand was able to win a total of two slalom races and achieve four second places. He was also twice Swedish champion in slalom and giant slalom. After the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo , where he finished ninth in slalom, he ended his career.
