Stig Erik Constans Wennerström (born August 22, 1906 in Stockholm , † March 22, 2006 in Enebyberg, Danderyd ) was a Swedish officer who passed on secrets of the Swedish national defense to Soviet secret services. From 1938 to 1947 he was adjutant to Gustav Adolf , the unfortunate Hereditary Prince of Sweden.

Life

As a colonel in the Swedish Air Force ( Flygvapnet ), Stig Wennerström was involved in espionage activities for Germany during the Second World War . Soviet agents found this out and confronted him with their knowledge. They put pressure on him to get information for them after the war. From then on, the military secret service GRU Wennerström ran as a spy .

In his function as an officer and later as a diplomat, he obtained information about his country's air defense and passed it on to his Soviet command officers . This also included the blueprints for the Draken fighter aircraft .

He was exposed in 1963 when his housekeeper Carin Rosen, who had been recruited by the Säkerhetspolisen, discovered a suspicious film roll in the attic of his house. He was sentenced to life imprisonment for treason. He was released in 1974, but led a life on the fringes of society and was ostracized as a traitor.

His nickname was "eagle".
