history
In the Stillern area, the Roman road ran from Gauting to Epfach ; in the Middle Ages, the route was used to transport charcoal from the nearby forest.
Stillern was probably first inhabited as a monk's hermitage in the 12th century .
Stillern was initially called Pählschwang , as it served as pastureland for the Pähl Castle . Finally Stillern fell to the Wessobrunn Monastery , which had today's chapel and hermitage built. The hermitage was still inhabited by a monk who catered for travelers on the way from Munich to the Alps.
In the 16th century the Stiller von Forst took over the forest pasture and used it as an agricultural enterprise, since then the former Pählschwang has been called Stillern.
In 1615 the chapel of St. Stephen and two courtyards are finally mentioned.
Until the regional reform, Stillern belonged to the former municipality of Haid, since then to the municipality of Raisting.
