Sankt Leonhard im Forst (officially Sankt Leonhard i.Forst ) is a district of the municipality of Wessobrunn in the Upper Bavarian district of Weilheim-Schongau .
geography
The parish village is about five kilometers south of Wessobrunn in a moraine landscape .
history
According to a legend, around 1200 there was a horse disease in the forest area. After a pilgrim carried the relics of St. Leonhard through Forst, the plague ended abruptly. Since then, St. Leonhard has been venerated here. There is historical evidence that Forst belonged to the Wessobrunn monastery and that Abbot Leonhard I held an annual Leonhardiritt in the middle of the 15th century and had a small church built.
The current Catholic church was finally built between 1726 and 1735.
Forest was an independent municipality until it was incorporated into Wessobrunn on May 1, 1978.
