The Stjørdalsfjord ( Norwegian Stjørdalsfjorden ) in the Norwegian Fylke Trøndelag is an eastern branch of the Strindfjord , which in turn represents an eastern section of the Trondheimfjord in its southern area. It is named after the place Stjørdal at its eastern end.

geography

The Stjørdalsfjord is located east of Trondheim between Malvik in the southwest, Hommelvik in the south, Skatval in the north and Stjørdal in the east. It is about 8 km long and 5-6 km wide, apart from the two bulges of the Vikanbukta in the northeast and the Hommelvika in the south.

traffic

The Trondheim Airport is located at the easternmost end of the fjord; its 2,849 m long and 45 m wide runway 09/27 was extended into the fjord in 1961. Just south of the airport leads the approach flowing from the east Stjørdalen Stjørdalselva into the fjord; the estuary was relocated so that the airport runway could be extended.

The European route 6 (E 6), section Trondheim - Narvik, and the railway line Trondheim - Stjørdal run along the south side of the Stjørdalsfjord.
