Location of Stockmannsmühle in Wuppertal

The location of Stockmannsmühle in the Elberfeld-West district of Wuppertal goes back to a former mill .

The Stockmannsmühle was mentioned in a document as early as 1574. At that time it belonged to the Elberfeld farm association , which was an allod of the Cologne archbishopric and was in the office and parish of Elberfeld . The powder mill was named after the owner Stockmann. According to the map series Topographia Ducatus Montani by Erich Philipp Ploennies from 1715, the mill was located at the mouth of the Varresbeck into the Wupper .

From 1590 to the beginning of the 18th century, an infirmary in the town of Elberfeld , often described as dilapidated over the decades, stood here , at that time at a great distance from the town. The infirmary was run by the Reformed community and was intended to provide shelter for lepers and their families away from the city. The small house was under the supervision of an infirmary and despite an extension only offered eight people accommodation. Due to a decree by Elector Johann Wilhelm , all of the Bergisch infirmary had to be demolished in 1712. The Elberfeld infirmary may also have disappeared.

In 1815/16 32 people lived there.

In 1832 Stockmannsmühle belonged to the Pickartsberger Rotte of the rural outskirts of the parish and the city of Elberfeld. According to the statistics and topography of the Düsseldorf administrative district , Stockmannsmühle was home to an arable farm , a bakery and a hostel for carters . At that time there were four residential buildings and twelve agricultural buildings with 29 inhabitants (three catholic, 26 evangelical).

A street that leads up the Nützenberg has been named after its location since 1935. Already on July 22, 1884 it was called Stockmannsmühlerstraße. The location was also listed in the address book in 1850.
