The Stocznia Gdanska B369 is a type of refrigerated ship built in twelve units .

Shipyard

The design of the Danzig shipyard (Stocznia Gdańska) was created between 1991 and 1994. First, the shipyard built six B369 units for the Star Reefers shipping company, followed by two B369-I structures for Unicool Ship and finally another four B369- II ships for Reefership Marine Services.

Ship description

The ships have deckhouses arranged aft and four main holds with a volume of around 14,979 m 3 , which are divided into 16 refrigerated holds and optimized for pallet transport. All cargo holds have four tween decks . The cooling system is designed for both deep-freeze loads (−25 ° C) and banana loads (+14 ° C). In addition, the cooling system is designed for operation with a controlled atmosphere (CA). A total of 178 TEU storage spaces are available for containers.

There are spaces on deck for 47 refrigerated containers and four electro-hydraulic deck cranes. Two of the cranes lift 32 tons each, the other two 8 tons each. The ships have 4 side ports on each side for easy handling of the cardboard boxes in the loading ports. The load capacity of the units is around 10,600 tons. The berthing and casting off maneuvers on all ships are supported by a bow thruster .

Machine system

The Star Reefers units are powered by a Wärtsilä Sulzer two - stroke diesel engine of the type 6RTA62 with a nominal output of 11400 kW, which enables a speed of almost 21  knots . These ships have three diesel generator sets (type Sulzer 6ATL25H) auxiliary diesels with 1150 kW each for electrical energy supply.

The Dole ships received a MAN B&W main engine of the type 6S60MC with a nominal output of 13,500 kW and four diesel generator sets (Bergen Diesel from TYPE = KRG-6) each with 945 kW at 720 rpm to generate electricity.

Cargo cooling system

This type of reefer ship was equipped with a cargo cooling system to cool all four holds with a total of 5900 m² of space for 4300 pallets. The refrigeration system and the circulating fan for the cold air supply are designed for a maximum of 90 air changes, and a 2-fold fresh air change is also possible.

The cargo holds with a total of 16 compartments are divided into 8 temperature zones and are 2.2 meters high to allow forklift operation. The four hatch covers (12.4 × 8.5 m) are also equipped with a so-called banana hatch (2.5 × 2.5 m) for elevator handling.

Controlled atmosphere operation

The first four ships of this type were later converted for CA operation, and the cargo holds and here especially the hatch covers, side ports and the areas of the air intake and exhaust air supply were better sealed. Additional lines (measuring and supply lines) were laid to the individual temperature zones of the cargo hold in order to be able to charge these areas with nitrogen generated from the ambient air. Samples of the hold atmosphere are taken via the measuring lines in order to regulate the specified nominal data (e.g. 3% O 2 , 5% CO 2 , 92% N 2 ).

The Dole ships were given the facilities described for CA operation when they were built. The necessary technical equipment for automatic CA control and nitrogen generation is placed in separate systems only for CA transports on deck and connected to the electrical power supply and to the supply and measurement lines. They are usually installed in 40-foot containers.
