The type B 457 was a series of coasters produced by the Polish shipyard Stocznia Wisła in the Krakowiec-Górki Zachodnie district of Gdańsk . It was built in three units from 1971 to 1973 for the Polish state shipping company Polska Żegluga Morska .
Construction and technical data
For the Stocznia Wisła, the type B 457 was the first series of seagoing vessels that was built at this shipyard. She had developed a small freighter, which was equipped with a deckhouse arranged aft above the engine room , two cargo holds and a mast with two cargo booms in between . The design was characterized by a high level of automation for the time and was expressly designed for the transport of wood.
The ships were 59.80 meters long, 10.22 meters wide and had a draft of 4.20 meters. The measurement of the type ship Hajnówka was 809 GRT and 371 NRT with a dead weight of 1075 tdw . The measurements of the two sister ships were slightly smaller. The drive consisted of a 900 hp six-cylinder diesel engine from Zgoda - Sulzer , model 6TAD36, which acted on a screw and reached a speed of 11.5 knots . The range was 3000 nautical miles. The crew consisted of 14 people.
The ships had two holds , each served by their own hatch, and were designed for the transport of general cargo and bulk cargo . The total capacity of the hold was 1443 m³ for grain and 1420 m³ for tree trunks. The loading gear consisted of two jibs with 3-ton cranes.
The first of the three ships was launched in 1971 at the Stocznia Wisła shipyard in Gdańsk for the shipping company Żegluga Polska Morska (PZM) and was named Hajnówka after the town of the same name in Hajnówka in eastern Poland. The sister ships Ruciane and Barlinek, also named after small towns, followed at a one-year interval .
history
The shipping company mainly used the ships for small and medium-sized voyages on the coasts of Europe. They transported the typical Polish export products - in the case of bulk goods, mainly coal and grain, as well as general cargo. Until the reorganization of the Polish state shipping companies in 1976, both ships sailed under the flag of Żegluga Polska Morska. At the end of 1976 they were handed over to the newly founded shipping company Polska Żegluga Bałtycka (PZB), which took over Polish ferry and coastal shipping from Żegluga Polska Morska and Polskie Line Oceaniczne .
PZB also continued to export Polish products to Western European ports, although the cargo now mainly consisted of wood. Hut products from Germany are named for the return journeys. When the PZB took many of its ships out of service in 1983/1984, only the three Kümos of the B 457 series remained in service with the shipping company as timber transporters. From 1992 PZB gradually decommissioned these ships and sold them.
