Stone Johnson
Stone Johnson ( Stone Edward Johnson ; born April 26, 1940 in Dallas - † September 8, 1963 in Wichita , Kansas ) was an American sprinter and American football player.
In 1960 he set the world record at the US eliminations for the Olympic Games in Rome in the semifinals of the 200-meter run with 20.5 s and came second in the final. At the Olympic Games he was fifth over 200 m and was part of the 4 x 100 meter relay for the US team, which was disqualified in the final.
In 1963 he was signed as a running back by the Kansas City Chiefs . In a test match, he suffered a fractured cervical vertebra , from the consequences of which he died ten days later. Although he had never played a regular game in the National Football League , his jersey number 33 was no longer awarded.
