Stonehenge Apocalypse (Alternative title: The Stonehenge Apocalypse - The last days of the earth , Original title: Stonehenge Apocalypse ) is an American TV movie by the director Paul Ziller from 2010 . The film is about the fact that Stonehenge is the center of a network of lines of force and suddenly various natural disasters break out in culturally significant locations, especially those with pyramids that are supposed to culminate in a terraforming of the earth. After the terraforming, selected people are to populate the now peaceful and habitable earth in a new world.

action

The archaeologist Joseph Leshem discovers a hidden pyramid in the USA and finds out that it is connected to all pyramids around the world by an underground network of lines of force. Obsessed with the end of the world and the creation of a new peaceful world under his leadership, he activates the secret mechanism in the pyramid that causes active volcanoes to explode under the other pyramids. The engine of this mechanism is Stonehenge in England , which suddenly moves as if by magic. Only the misunderstood scientist Jacob knows how to stop the project. The key to ending the horror is the Antikythera computer , which he promptly steals from the American National Museum in Washington, DC . The military initially does not believe him and prefers to blow up Stonehenge. At the last second, however, he can save the world from doom.

background

The film plays with the theory that the Pyramids and Stonehenge were not built by humans because 5000 years ago humans did not have the means and knowledge to do so. Many different epochs of history are mixed up and combined in a way that has never been seen before. In addition, puzzling artifacts from the past are shown as terraforming objects that were installed on earth by an alien civilization in the event of destruction due to environmental damage.

The film shows both pre-astronautical and pseudo-archalogical content . Both Stonehenge and the Antikythera Mechanism actually served early forms of astronomy . As far as we know today, their construction and development was possible for people of early antiquity with the means of that time. In addition, the Antikythera mechanism depicted in the film is just a bad imitation of the original: in reality, it is much more complex, as it consists of 82 fragments; the object shown in the film is just the best known of them. In addition, it is actually exhibited in the National Archaeological Museum in Athens ; elsewhere there are only replicas and / or reconstructions of the artifact.

Director Paul Ziller is known for such films. Ziller also shot the film Polar Storm as well as a consequence of the Stargate - offshoot Stargate: Atlantis .

reception

When the film first aired in the US, 2.1 million viewers watched.

“Nomen est omen: Anyone who expects even a touch of seriousness from the latest work by Paul Ziller, who is subscribed to apocalyptic film material of all stripes, in view of a title like“ Stonehenge Apocalypse ”is sitting in the wrong film. Here trash is celebrated in scales of absurdity that can hardly be measured anymore, that it has a kind. The actors know that too, throwing themselves into their roles with verve, but without ever being as busy as the effects department. "
