Stop the Shoppers is a Swiss dialect - band from the canton of Bern .

history

The brothers Schmidi and Jüre Schmidhauser as well as Andi Hug started in 1987 as a street and party band in Switzerland, Germany and France. The name “Stop the Shoppers” - “Don't take the money to the supermarket, give it to us - and live!” Was born as a simple band that played in public spaces and encouraged people to stop. Her folk blues, performed with a lot of socially critical text, quickly found a large audience. In 1990 they had 12 concerts in the former GDR on the occasion of a cultural exchange between Bern and Leipzig. In the same year they released their first album Ornig in the country . In 1992 Bomber was published on the sampler Stop FA18 and the song Di Strass, won i drann live on the sampler Matter-Rock-Homage à Mani Matter . The second album Kurt followed in 1993 . Schmidi Schmidhauser's distinctive voice soon became known outside of Bern and became the epitome of new Bernese rock. In 1995 they released the song Nüün Elefante for the sampler Ohrewürm 1 and the third album So wi di Grosse was released. This album came to number 27 on the Swiss charts and stayed there for 3 weeks.

In 1996 followed a tour with the Dutch group The Nits and the album Shoppers , which was able to place itself in the charts again.

After further albums, the single Blöffer Bländer Burefänger followed in 2004 for the 30th anniversary of the show Kassensturz of Swiss television . Stop the Shoppers provided the soundtrack for the children's fairy tale “Gschicht vo de nüün Elefante” with the Bernese narrator Timmermahn .

The ninth album, Mambogimp , was released in 2005. On the Beatles tribute sampler Lain Fabular they sang the song Tut è spir amur (English: All You Need Is Love ) in Romansh .

In 2007 they were featured on the Polo Hofer Tribute album with the song Rote Wy . After concerts on the 2nd Swiss rock and blues cruise in the Mediterranean and various concerts in Grenada , the anniversary concert for the 25th anniversary of the band followed in 2013 at Bierhübeli in Bern.

The band has been on a creative break since 2013. The singer Schmidi Schmidhauser travels a lot with his second band Chica Torpedo , others came to Züri West and Patent Ochsner . A small revival with a few concerts in Switzerland is planned for 2021 , and it is planned that the group will be part of the 8th Rock & Blues Cruise in the Mediterranean.
