Storchenturm (Herrieden)
The Storchenturm is a medieval gate tower and part of the former city fortifications of Herrieden in the Central Franconian district of Ansbach . The building is registered under the monument number D-5-71-166-29 as an architectural monument in the Bavarian monument list. The stork tower is at the southern end of the market square. The postal address is Marktplatz 6.
The stork tower, destroyed by Emperor Ludwig the Bavarian in 1316 , was rebuilt in 1340 under Prince-Bishop Heinrich V. Schenk von Reicheneck . As the city gate, the tower has always been used as a traffic route; today, State Road 2448 continues through the market square. The stork tower is one of the few buildings in the Altmühltal on which storks still nest today . Today the tower is used by the Herrieden Photo Club as a clubhouse
