The Storkvammen ( Norwegian for Great Saum Valley ) is a mountain basin in the East Antarctic Queen Maud Land . On the east side of the Alexander von Humboldt Mountains in the Wohlthat massif, it lies between the cliffs of Eidsgavlen and Kvamsgavlen .
The valley was discovered and photographed from the air during the German Antarctic Expedition in 1938/39 under the direction of polar explorer Alfred Ritscher . Norwegian cartographers, who also named it, mapped it using surveys and aerial photographs of the Third Norwegian Antarctic Expedition (1956–1960)
