The Storsylen ( Eng . The great thorn ) or Syltoppen is a mountain on the Norwegian / Swedish border and the highest mountain in the Sylan . It is also the highest point in the historic Swedish province of Jämtland , which is part of Jämtland County . The peak on the Swedish side is 1743 meters, the actual peak, which is on Norwegian territory, is 1762 meters high. The notch height of the mountain is 640 m.
Development
In the 19th century, the mountain was considered impassable. Nowadays it is one of the most climbed peaks in the Sylan. There are routes for both hiking (from the north) and climbing (from the south). The normal route leads from Nedalshytta to around 780 moh in the Norwegian municipality of Tydal in around 5 hours via a 12 km long hiking trail marked by the Norwegian hiking club to the summit of Storsylen.
