Streiflicht (column)

The Streiflicht is a gloss or column in the Süddeutsche Zeitung that has appeared there daily on the first page at the top left since 1946. It has 72 lines - but sometimes 73 or 74 lines - and basically has three paragraphs. The authors remain anonymous when they are first published; the side light is marked with the abbreviation (SZ) . However, since the Süddeutsche Zeitung published collected Streiflichter in book form, some authors have been known.

General

According to one of its creators, the SZ editor Franz Josef Schöningh , the name of the Streiflicht resulted from the wish to offer “a kind of lighthouse in the storm of daily bad news”.

In 2003 the Streiflicht was awarded the German Language Prize of the Henning Kaufmann Foundation for maintaining the purity of the German language. In 2005 the Streiflicht received the Henri Nannen Prize “for humorous and entertaining reporting”. In the meantime, four anthologies with the best highlights have already appeared. From the years 2008 to 2011 the grazing light is z. T. also set to music. Since 2010, the Streiflicht has been set to music by BEBE Medien GmbH, the operator of the online radio Detector.fm , and integrated into the digital editions of the Süddeutsche Zeitung.
