Band history

Strid (later Storm, not the ex under the name Malfeitor by bassist and singer Red 1990 Gorgoroth - bass ) (later Jardar; not Jardar of drummer Lost Old Man's Child ) and founded the guitarist Funeral and Samhain. In 1991 she released a first demo of the same name ; the second demo Pandemonium followed in 1992. Øystein Aarseth , to whom the Norwegian black metal scene goes back, named it in 1992 together with bands such as Immortal , Burzum and Darkthrone as part of the elite Norwegian scene. After the release of Pandemonium , the band changed their name to Battle. Battle recorded the demo End of Life , which contained only one 11-minute song of the same name; shortly afterwards Ravn Harjar (not Ravn from Mysticum ) became a member of the band. After the release and the departure of the original guitarist, the band renamed themselves to Strid.

In 1994 a 7 " EP was released on the German independent label Malicious Records; at that time the band consisted only of Storm and Ravn. There has been no release since 1995, the band is considered disbanded. The drummer is said to have been due to the lighting of a Kirche served a prison sentence while guitarist Ravn Harjar retired to seclusion and singer and bassist Storm committed suicide in 2000.

In the fall of 2007, all Malfeitor- and Strid recordings from specializing in black metal were Athenians independent label Kyrck Productions first as LP released shortly afterwards followed by a CD and a registered proposed in leather Digibook , each with the pieces of Malfeitor demos as bonus tracks .

The band has been active again since autumn 2009, in September 2010 Ravn Harjar announced the return of the band and a gig in Oslo . The new bass player in Storm's place is Yusaf "Vicotnik" Parvez from Dødheimsgard .

meaning

Strid is one of the lesser known Norwegian black metal bands. However, René "Kanwulf" Wagner's band from the German one-man project Nargaroth was often mentioned in interviews and a passage from End of Life in the title track of the Nargaroth album Black Metal ist Krieg - A Dedication Monument was adopted. It was criticized that Wagner did not mention this.

Likewise, the band is received in a current of Black Metal, whose texts, aesthetics and demeanor revolve around topics such as suicide , depression , self-mutilation and self-harming behavior , and is considered to be one of its founders. Well-known representatives of this movement, which is summarized under the term " Depressive Black Metal " (DBM), include Shining and Abyssic Hate , whose music is influenced by bands such as Manes and Burzum and the German dark metal band Bethlehem as well as Strid .
