The Strike-a-Light River is a river in the southeast of the Australian state of New South Wales .

The river used to be called Strike-a-Light Creek or - in part - Tinderry Creek . It only got its current name in 1969.

course

The river has its source three kilometers south of the small town of Jerangle on the eastern slopes of Mount Wangrah in the southern Tinderry Range ( Great Dividing Range ) at an altitude of 1200 m. The Strike-a-Light River flows northwest to the Strike-a-Light Nature Reserve and then southwest to the Bredbo River . It covers a distance of 38 kilometers to its confluence with the Bredbo River.

Tributaries

Its tributaries are the Calabash Creek , Rocky Creek, and Wangrah Creek . The entire river is in the Cooma-Monaro Shire Local Government Area .

In Strike-a-Light River various amphibians such as the live Bibronkrötchen ( Pseudophryne bibronii ), the Australian Eastern Fröschchen ( Crinia signifera ), the South Australian Banjo frog ( Limnodynastes dumerilii ), the Tasmanian Banjo frog ( Limnodynastes tasmaniensis ) and the Verreaux Tree Frog ( Litoria verreauxii ).

The typical vegetation along the river are eucalyptus forests ( Eucalyptus bridgesiana , Eucalyptus viminalis ) and dry bushland, as well as areas that have been partially cleared of natural vegetation.
