Strubesche Foundation

The Strubesche Foundation is a listed building in Magdeburg in Saxony-Anhalt .

location

It is located in a corner location that characterizes the street scene at the confluence of Basedowstraße and Klosterbergestraße in Magdeburg's Buckau district at the address Basedowstraße 15/17 .

Architecture and history

The building was built between 1890 and 1892 as a Protestant clubhouse based on a design by the municipal building officer Reinhold Beer . The building was financed by a foundation by Buckau entrepreneur C. Louis Strube , from which the name that is still in use today arises.

A large three-storey brick building was built in the neo-Gothic style . Structural elements are made of sandstone . The large segmental arched windows have cross blocks made of sandstone. On the cornice there is a pointed arch frieze on sandstone consoles. To the east towards Klosterbergestraße the corner of the building recedes polygonally . At this point, a polygonal tower bay window with a high tapered helmet dominates the appearance of the house. The bay window rests on a splendidly designed column. On the roof of the house are ogive dazzle provided gables arranged.

The house should serve to support socially needy sections of the population in the working-class district. A large kitchen and a dining room were housed in the house. On the second floor and in the attic there is a large assembly hall spanned by a barrel vault. It has served both religious and secular events and has a small polygonal choir .

The house is considered to be a socially and historically significant example of a privately financed social institution from the phase of high industrialization in Germany . Noteworthy are the design, reminiscent of church architecture, which was suggested by the purpose of the foundation.

In the local register of monuments , the clubhouse is listed as a monument under registration number 094 17774 .
