etymology

The Walder Scheid or Scheidt was a forest area in the border area to the parish of Solingen. It comprised the farms Oben- and Untenscheidt , as well as Scheiderfeld , Mummenscheid , the Scheider mill and the locality Scheiderirlen . The part of the name Scheid is a field name that occurs in many regions, see also: -scheid . Its origin can probably be traced back to Scheiden , Scheide = Grenz . In the case of Obenscheidt, a watershed can also be meant in addition to a district boundary .

history

From the late Middle Ages until the 19th century, Scheid was the titular place of the Honschaft Scheid , a lower administrative district of the Wald parish within the Bergisch office of Solingen . Obenscheidt, which has been traceable since the 18th century, also belonged to this honor . In 1715, the farm was first recorded with a farm by Erich Philipp Ploennies on the Topographia Ducatus Montani map , Blatt Amt Solingen, and named as Scheid . In early times the farm was also called Burenscheid (= Bauernscheid). The topographical recording of the Rhineland from 1824 lists the place as Scheidoben and the Prussian first recording from 1844 as Ob: Scheid . In the topographical map of the Düsseldorf administrative district from 1871, the place is recorded as O Scheid .

After the Mairien and later mayor's offices were founded at the beginning of the 19th century, Obenscheidt belonged to the Wald mayor's office . In 1815/16 100 people lived in the hamlet called Oben Scheidt and Oben-Scheid , in 1830 113 people . In 1832 the place was part of the Second Dorfhonschaft within the mayor's office forest, there it was in the corridor III. ( Scheid ). The place, which was categorized as a court town according to the statistics and topography of the Düsseldorf government district , had a public building, 20 residential buildings and 15 agricultural buildings at that time. At that time, 112 residents lived in the village, nine of them Catholic and 103 Protestant. The municipality and estate district statistics of the Rhine Province list the place in 1871 with 30 houses and 197 inhabitants. In the municipality encyclopedia for the Rhineland province of 1888, 31 houses with 208 inhabitants are given for Obenscheidt . In 1895 the district had 31 houses with 202 inhabitants, in 1905 28 houses and 185 inhabitants are given.

The partially running through the town Luca road was nearing Cities Association after the longtime district administrator of the district Solingen , Adolf Lucas named. With the town union of Groß-Solingen in 1929, the Obenscheidt court became a district of Solingen. The large half-timbered house complex Lucasstrasse 31, 31a from the 18th century has been a listed building since 1984 . According to today's city district boundaries, Obenscheidt belongs to Gräfrath.
