Baron William Henry of the fir (also: from Thann ) (* 13. February 1710 in Swiss francs ; † 22. March 1790 in Auras in the district Wohlau ) was a Prussian colonel , commander of an infantry - battalion and Lord of the Manor in Polish Würbitz, Nordheim, Huflar and Leipach in Silesia .

His parents were Otto Engelhardt von der Tann ( 1669-1720) and his wife Freiin Christiane Philippine Stiebar von Buttenheim (* 1676). His father was the heir to Nordheim and Huflar.

Career

In 1729 he was employed in Saxony-Eisenach , where he joined the infantry regiment, fought in Italy and in 1734/35 on the Rhine . In 1740 he entered Prussian service with the Eisenach Regiment, where it formed the 40th Infantry Regiment . There he was promoted to staff captain in 1743 . During the Second Silesian War , he was taken prisoner on October 23, 1744 during the surrender of Frauenberg Castle in Bohemia . Nevertheless, he was appointed company commander on November 1, 1744 .

Between the wars, he was promoted to major on October 29, 1755 . During the Seven Years' War he received the grenadier battalion of Johann Bernhard von Kremzow , which was formed from the companies of regiments No. 22 ("Prince Moritz") and No. 17 ("Manteufel") . and in 1758 became lieutenant colonel . He was seriously injured in the battle of Kunersdorf . In 1760 he received his requested farewell as a colonel due to numerous wounds. The battalion was given to Peter Christoph von Wopersnow . Tanne died in Auras on March 22, 1790.

family

On January 31, 1753, he married Beate Henriette von Gessler (* 1730; † March 4, 1768) widowed von Kreyzen , a daughter of Field Marshal Friedrich Leopold von Gessler . The couple had 10 children including:

  • Beate Amalie Friederike (* December 23, 1753; † January 20, 1783) ⚭ 1779 Ludwig Wilhelm von Geßler (* September 30, 1751; † 1818)
