etymology

The Bauskotten is a Schleifkotten owned by the Baus family. It was named after the Eschbach estate owner Peter Baus in 1652.

history

The Eschbach inheritance owner Peter Baus built the Bauskotten on his property in the southwest of the Eschbach court on the banks of the Nümmener Bach in 1652. This was put into operation on October 29, 1652. The original Kotten building was east of today's Bausmühlenstrasse. For the use of the hydropower, the owner had to pay an annual fee of half a gold guilder to the sovereign .

In the map series Topographia Ducatus Montani by Erich Philipp Ploennies , Blatt Amt Solingen , from the year 1715, the Kotten is recorded without a name. He belonged to the Itter Honschaft within the Solingen office. The topographical survey of the Rhineland from 1824 and the Prussian first survey from 1844 also show the Kotten unlabeled.

After the Mairien and later mayor's offices were founded at the beginning of the 19th century, the Bauskotten belonged to the Wald mayor's office . 1815/16 as in 1830 also lived four people in a grinding mill or Kotten designated construction cottas . In 1832 the place was part of the first village honors within the mayor's office forest, there it was in the corridor II. ( Wood ). The place, which was categorized as a court town according to the statistics and topography of the Düsseldorf administrative district , had two residential buildings, a mill or factory and two agricultural buildings at that time. At that time, eight residents lived in the village, one of which was Catholic and seven Protestant. The municipality and estate district statistics of the Rhine Province list the place in 1871 with two houses and eight inhabitants. In the municipality encyclopedia for the Rhineland province from 1888, a house with ten residents is given for Bauskotten. In 1895 the district had a house with five inhabitants, in 1905 three houses and 18 inhabitants are given.

After the death of the last grinder from the Baus family before 1898, the original Kotten was laid down. A new building was erected in 1898 west of today's Bausmühlenstrasse, in which a stitching shop was operated. This new Bauskotten was finally taken out of service in 1935/1936. The building is still standing today and is at Bausmühlenstraße 93.

With the town union of Groß-Solingen in 1929, the Bauskotten became part of Solingen. In the new building area west of the Fuhr , which was built in the mid-1990s, a side street has since been named in memory of the Bauskotten.
