etymology

The own field is a field located at the court of Eigen, an arable land . The word own means own property, own good (= allod ) in contrast to fiefdom . This means that the owner of the farm was not bound by any obligations towards the owner (such as paying taxes).

history

The location of Eigener Feld was perhaps only created around the turn of the 19th century. The topographical survey of the Rhineland from 1824 already lists the place as an own field, as does the Prussian first survey from 1844. In the topographical map of the Düsseldorf administrative district from 1871, however, the place is not recorded.

After the Mairien and later mayor's offices were founded at the beginning of the 19th century, Eigener Feld belonged to the forest mayor's office , where it was in corridor III. ( Scheid ). In 1815/16 eleven, in 1830 also eleven people lived in the Eignerfeld known as the hamlet . In 1832 the place was part of the second village honors within the forest mayor. The place, which was categorized as a Hofstadt according to the statistics and topography of the Düsseldorf administrative district , had two residential buildings and two agricultural buildings at the time. At that time, 17 residents lived in the village, all of whom were evangelicals. The municipality and estate district statistics of the Rhine Province list the place in 1871 with two houses and 15 inhabitants. In the municipality lexicon for the Rhineland province of 1888, two residential buildings with eleven inhabitants are given for Eigenerfeld . In 1895 the district had two houses with 18 inhabitants, in 1905 two houses and 16 inhabitants are given.

With the town union of Groß-Solingen in 1929, Eigener Feld became a district of Solingen. During the construction of the largest school location in Solingen's post-war history in the 1970s, the field corridor of the Eigener Feld between the courtyard, Vogelsang and the botanical garden was used. The foundation stone for the future Vogelsang school center was laid in 1977. Two years later the school house was inaugurated, which offers space for a grammar school as well as a secondary school. On the former garbage dump and later mulching plant in the north-west of Eigener Feld, Carl-Russ-Strasse was laid out in 1997 as a new cross-connection between Frankfurter Damm and Demmeltrath. After the site was abandoned by the Solingen waste disposal company in 2003, the former mulching plant lay fallow for years. The site was acquired by a local car dealer in 2016 who set up a car dealership at this location.
