etymology

The name Eschbach, which must have existed at least in the late 15th century, is probably derived from a stream with ash trees (Itter and / or Nümmener Bach).

history

Eschbach was first mentioned in 1492 as eschbacher Hoyff . The place is also shown on the map by Erich Philipp Ploennies from 1715. Eschbach belonged to the Itter Honschaft in the Bergisch office of Solingen . In this context, the Gräfrath monastery had to pay tithes . The dependence on the Gräfrath monastery only ended completely in 1809.

On September 27, 1775, the geometer Johann Peter Stamm made a drawing from the court. From this it can be inferred that the place consisted of four houses at that time, the street via Buckert to Westersburg had the vernacular name Nachbarenstraße. The knife- maker brothers Johann Abraham Bick and Christian Bick lived in the largest of the Eschbach houses .

The topographical survey of the Rhineland from 1824 and the Prussian first survey from 1844 record the place unlabelled or as Eschbach. In 1815/16 there were 30 people living in the village. 1830/1832 Eschbach belonged to the first village honors within the forest mayor . The place, which was categorized as a court town according to the statistics and topography of the Düsseldorf administrative district , had seven residential buildings and five agricultural buildings at that time. At that time 34 residents lived in the place, four of them Catholic and 30 Protestant denominations. In the municipality lexicon for the Rhineland province , 1885 houses with 102 inhabitants are listed. In 1895 the district had 17 houses with 101 inhabitants, in 1905 15 houses and 95 inhabitants are given. With the town union of Groß-Solingen in 1929, Eschbach became a district of Solingen. In 1940 the farm had a total of 14 houses.

After the town of Burg an der Wupper was incorporated into Solingen in 1975, there were some duplicate street names that had to be eliminated. As a rule, the Burger street names were changed, only Burger Eschbachstrasse (named after the Eschbach ) kept its name due to the large number of commercial establishments that were located on the street. In return, the Walder Eschbachstraße was renamed Bausmühlenstraße.

In 2014 the Residenzenweg ( SGV main hiking route X7) was cleared through the village after 75 years.
