The blade path is a circular hiking trail that surrounds the entire city of Solingen . It has an S in a circle as a signpost (Solinger Rundweg).

route

The length of the hiking trail is almost 70 kilometers. Because of the Solingen cutlery industry , which has been famous throughout Europe since the Middle Ages , the hiking trail was named Klingenpfad. The road signs are updated at regular intervals by the Solingen branch of the Sauerland Mountain Association .

The construction of the path, initially only 60 kilometers long, was carried out as a job creation measure by the National Socialist regime in the years 1932 to 1935 and was carried out by the unemployed. The inauguration took place in 1935. In 1975, the municipality of Burg an der Wupper joined Solingen as a result of a municipal reform , which is why the hiking trail was expanded by 15 kilometers around the new district.

The Klingenpfad leads clockwise from the center of Gräfrath to the highest point of Solingen, follows the Wupper past Kohlfurth and Schaberg, under the Müngstener bridge , to Burg an der Wupper, climbs the ridge to Remscheid - Westhausen , crosses the Eschbach valley and climbs up the mountain to Burg Castle , circling the Sengbachtalsperre on riverside paths and climbing the Pfaffenberg behind Glüder . On the slopes of the Wuppertal, numerous historical Schleifkotten (including the present-day grinding museums Balkhauser Kotten and Wipperkotten ), as well as the localities of Wupperhof, Oben- and Unterrüden, the Weinsberger Bachtal, Wippe and Haasenmühle and the castles Haus Hohenscheid and Haus Nesselrath are passed along the river . Hackhausen Castle is on the way in the Ohligs district and after crossing the Ohligser Heide and the Ohligs district you reach Caspersbroich Castle on the Itter stream and the Heidberger Mühle . Then it goes back to Gräfrath along the Itter.

The Klingenpfad is one of the most beautiful and varied hiking trails in the Bergisches Land . Contemplative paths through forests, over ridges and past historically significant points shape the image of this hiking route, which is carefully embedded in nature.

The path can be mastered in stages, hikers will find suitable accommodation and refreshment stops at regular intervals.
