The Neanderlandsteig (own names: neanderland asc and neanderland STEIG ) is a circular hiking trail of around 240 kilometers in the Niederbergisches Land , in the area of the Mettmann district and the neighboring cities of Essen , Düsseldorf and Solingen (also through the area of ​​the cities of Wuppertal , Leverkusen , Duisburg , Mülheim an der Ruhr and Hattingen run small sections of the way). The waymarkis a white N on a red background. The Neanderlandsteig consists of 17 stages, which were gradually opened from June 23, 2013. From Neviges , the path goes counter-clockwise through the Windrath farmers and then through Elfringhauser Schweiz . Finally, the kidney court is reached. Over the ridge of the Vossnacken between Essen-Kupferdreh and Velbert- Mitte, the hiking trail orientates itself further west until it leads through the Vogelsangbach valley north of the city center of Heiligenhaus . The southern slopes of the Ruhr near Essen-Kettwig are reached via Isenbügel . The extensive forest area between Duisburg , Mülheim and Düsseldorf is reached via Mülheim - Mintard and - Selbeck . The Neanderlandsteig continues via Ratingen - Lintorf / -West / - Schwarzbach , Erkrath , D- Unterbach , Hilden -West, D- Garath , Baumberg , Monheim , Reusrath , the Ohligser and Hildener Heide , the Ittertal south of Haan , the upper Neandertal , Gruiten and Düssel back to Neviges.

Uniform marketing of many sights in the Niederberg district of Mettmann led to the creation of the word Neanderland (proper spelling: neanderland). This brand name was derived from the name of the most famous sight, the Neandertal . The circular hiking trail connects the sights and natural spaces of the "Neanderland". It required investments of 675,000 euros. Work began in 2011. 97 percent of the route runs over existing hiking trails. Originally, a 66-kilometer, 5-stage contiguous section between Haan and Velbert was supposed to be opened in autumn 2012.

Connection routes

Between Neviges and Haan, the path runs parallel to the Bergischer Weg , which is also new .
