The Windrath Chapel is a church belonging to the Evangelical Parish of Langenberg , which is located in the outskirts of the city of Velbert in the district of Neviges in the Windrath peasantry, surrounded by agricultural land.
description
The single-nave chapel is made of quarry stone and has three window axes with unadorned round arches and another window in the choir room. On the south side there is a small side door that was later broken, while the main entrance is under a small built-in choir gallery through the mighty west tower.
The tower, a dungeon like, also made of rubble stone. It was rebuilt in 1821/23 after a severe storm in which it fell into the nave . In 1969, due to the difficult weather conditions in its exposed location, the tower was closed off on the advice of the state conservator. The outdoor facilities with their orchards fit harmoniously into the nearby farm.
history
It is believed that the construction of the small church, originally consecrated as Margaret Chapel, goes back to the missionary work of Saint Swidbert from England at the turn of the 8th and 9th centuries. The chapel serves as a place of worship for the scattered farmers of the Hardenberg rule . Refurbishment documents have been available since 1682.
use
There is a monthly service. The chapel is a popular wedding church. The Neanderlandsteig leads past the chapel, which can be seen from afar.
