Hilden Heath

The Hildener Heide is a slightly hilly, mostly wooded heathland area in North Rhine-Westphalia . It belongs to the natural environment Hilden Lintorfer sandy terraces and thus to Bergisch Heath Terrace , located on the eastern outskirts of Hilden and is partially protected . The area borders on Autobahn 3 in the west, Autobahn 46 in the north and the neighboring town of Haan in the east . The Itter flows south of the site . The federal road 228 from Hilden to Haan cuts through the area in a west-east direction. The Hilden forest swimming pool is on this street.

In contrast to the nearby Ohligser Heide , in the eastern part of the area south of the main road there are even larger real heather areas around the 106.2  m high Sandberg. In the western part is the forest barracks , where the only training music corps of the Bundeswehr is stationed. Between the barracks and the heath is the 106.6  m high Jaberg , which is the highest point in the Hilden urban area. The Jaberg Tower has stood on its summit since 1931 , a 13.2 m high observation tower that can be climbed on weekends.

The part of the Hildener Heide north of the main road is also called Hildener Stadtwald and is continuously wooded in the western half. Due to its proximity to the residential areas in Hilden-Nord (west of the federal highway 3) and Erkrath-Sandheide (north of the federal highway 46) as well as the good parking facilities around the forest swimming pool, the forest is heavily used by those looking for relaxation and athletes. In addition to marked hiking trails and running routes, there is also a running club . The forest loosens further to the east and alternates with meadows and pastures. Here, at the hamlet of Kesselsweier, was also the Hilden glider airfield, which was closed in 2008. The Hoxbach - a tributary to the Düssel - flows through the Hilden city forest in an east-west direction.

The Hilden Heath is known among botanists in North Rhine-Westphalia for its wealth of rare and now endangered plant species. For example, in 2015 B. Aira praecox , Maiden Pink , Heath Dog-violet , Carex echinata , sedge , Sundew , Sundew , Eriophorum angustifolium , saving engined rush , marsh club moss , bog myrtle , marsh lily , white beak-sedge , Brown beak-sedge and German deergrass detected become.
