Stuart Robert Kennedy (born May 31, 1953 in Grangemouth , Falkirk ) is a retired Scottish football player on the position of defender .

career

society

Kennedy began his professional career in the 1971/72 season at his "hometown club" FC Falkirk , with whom he first played in the first division and since relegation in 1974 in the second division.

In 1976 Kennedy was obliged by FC Aberdeen , with whom he won the league cup in his first season in 1976/77 . Further successes emerged in the early 1980s under coach Alex Ferguson : the championship title of the 1979/80 season was followed by winning the Drybrough Cup at the end of the 1980/81 season and the Scottish Cup victory in the 1981/82 seasons in the two following years and 1982/83 . In the latter season, Aberdeen also won the European Cup Winners' Cup . On the way to this success, the Dons had prevailed against FC Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals . After a 5-1 first leg win against Belgian cup winner THOR Waterschei in the semifinals, which due to the clear result had actually made the preliminary decision about the final, Kennedy suffered a serious knee injury in the second leg (which was lost 0-1) , which meant the end of his football career. Although he was no longer fit to play in the final against Real Madrid (2: 1 a.s.), Alex Ferguson summoned him to the bench in recognition of his outstanding achievements in the past, so that at least in this way he could play the most important game in the club's history of Aberdeen FC.

National team

In 1978 Kennedy completed a total of seven missions for the Scottish national team and was also part of the Scottish World Cup squad , where he played the preliminary rounds against Peru (1: 3) and the Netherlands (3: 2). On November 18, 1981, he completed a World Cup qualifier against Portugal, which was lost 2-1 at the Estádio da Luz in Lisbon .
