Stuart Ziff (special effects artist)

Stuart Irwin Ziff (born February 28, 1949 in Los Angeles ) is an American special effects technician .

Life

Soon after completing his technical training, Ziff had focused on creating technical and visual special effects and joined George Lucas' Star Wars team in 1976 . For the first film, Star Wars , the 27-year-old Californian was involved in the creation of miniatures and optical special effects; for the second film in the hugely popular series, Ziff was responsible for the same area as coordinator. In between, in 1978, Ziff was hired for the electronic effects for the meltdown thriller The China Syndrome .

Science fiction material remained Ziff's specialty: In the 1980s, for example, he was involved in the special effects for the Entertainment Effects Group for the genre classics Ghostbusters and 2010: The year in which we make contact and, after a detour as an engineer the Tippett Studios at Jurassic Park , in the 1990s for the Boss Film Studios on the films Air Force One , Starship Troopers and Desperate Measures , for which he mainly developed miniature models. Before the turn of the millennium, Stuart Ziff, who together with Dennis Muren received an Oscar for technical merits in 1982 , ended his active film career.

Another Stuart Ziff (* 1953) is a musician and plays the guitar.
