The Studentische Kreditskasse eV (abbreviation: DAKA eV) is a non-profit association that started its activity on July 21, 1950. The purpose of the association is the financial support of students during their studies , the doctorate , as well as during the compulsory internship and the practical year by granting affordable student loans.
history
On June 2, 1922, the loan office of the Deutsche Studentenschaft e. V. founded. The purpose of the loan fund was to provide loans to needy, scientifically and humanly proven students. In 1929 the loan fund was incorporated into the Deutsche Studentenwerk (from 1934: Reichsstudentenwerk ), which was dissolved as a Nazi organization in 1945 by the Allied Control Council Act No. 2 .
In January 1950, at the general meeting of the Student House Association of the Technical University of Berlin-Charlottenburg e. V. proposed the establishment of a local loan office. As a result, in July, Professors Vockel, Gobrecht and Koch and the student W. Koch founded the loan fund, at that time still under the name of the Berlin-Charlottenburg student loan fund . The association has been based in the student house of the Technical University of Berlin since it was founded .
The financial basis was made up of grants from the State of Berlin, the Federal Ministry for All-German Issues and DM 20,000 from the Studentenwerk. In addition, in 1950 the student parliament of the TU Berlin decided to raise 1 DM per semester from each student for the student loan fund. In addition, with the decision of December 18, 1951, the responsible Berlin commission for claims to assets according to control directive No. 50 (decision K.386.50), the loan fund as the successor organization of the loan fund of the Deutsche Studentenschaft e. V. established. As a result of the decision, assets from before it was incorporated into the Reich Student Union were transferred to the association.
In 1951, the loan fund was renamed Studentische loan fund e. V. renamed in order to express the character of a whole Berlin institution. In the same year the Free University of Berlin and the German University of Politics (until 1959) joined the loan fund.
In the following years more and more universities in Berlin joined the association. The Berlin University of Music followed in 1952, the University of Fine Arts was won as a member in 1963 and the Alice Salomon University of Applied Sciences also joined the non-profit association in 1988. Three years later, the Beuth University of Applied Sciences Berlin decided to enable its students to take out a final loan through their membership.
In 1996 another large university, the Humboldt University in Berlin , was won as a member. Membership ended in 2005.
The Evangelische Hochschule Berlin joined the association in 1999. In 2003, the newly founded Charité University Medicine Berlin followed.
Since then, other Berlin universities have joined the association (see below "Member universities"), so that the association has been able to grow steadily.
On May 12, 2009, because of urgent renovation work in the student house, the loan office moved into new premises in the advice center of the Berliner Studentenwerk on the grounds of the Technical University of Berlin.
Since April 2017, the loan office has been based in Berlin-Steglitz, close to the Free University of Berlin.
Student loan
The student loan can be paid out for a maximum of 3 years. The monthly payment may not exceed € 750. In addition, a special payment of up to € 1,500 can be requested for purchase-related individual purchases. The loan is secured by one or two absolute guarantees, depending on the amount.
The Daka Berlin student loan has been awarded four out of five stars several times by the Center for University Development (CHE) in recent years . This means that the Daka belongs to the top group in the field of lending to students.
