The Evangelische Hochschule Berlin (EHB) is a church-based, state-recognized university of applied sciences in Berlin . It is a training, service and research institution for health and social economy companies and institutions as well as for church and diaconal organizations. The carrier is the Evangelical Church Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Upper Lusatia (EKBO).

history

In 1904, female social workers were trained in courses for the first time in the church-diaconal sector in Berlin. The women's school of the Inner Mission under the direction of Bertha von der Schulenburg has consistently developed these courses from 1909 to meet the increased need for professionally trained women for social work. In 1971 the then higher technical school for social work was transferred to the Evangelical University of Applied Sciences Berlin (EFB). This created the first university degree for social work / social pedagogy in the tertiary educational area of social work. In 2004 the EFB celebrated its centenary as one of the oldest training centers for social professions in Germany. In April 2010 the EFB was renamed Evangelische Hochschule Berlin (EHB) and received a new logo as part of the name change from the Berlin universities of applied sciences to Universities .

Degree programs and activities

Six Bachelor and four Master courses are offered at the EHB .

Event ehb.forscht

As part of the ehb.forscht event , the Evangelische Hochschule Berlin awards the Gräfin-von-der-Schulenburg-Preis for the best thesis of the year every winter semester and at the same time presents the research results of the last university year. In doing so, the SFIVET emphasizes an area of work that universities often perceive to be in favor of practice-oriented training. The ehb.forscht event is also intended to promote discussion and professional exchange between the members of the university.

The reference point is the Reformation Day - a bridge to the church sponsorship of the university. The award's namesake, Bertha Gräfin von der Schulenburg, founded the Inner Mission women's school in 1904, from which the state-recognized Protestant University of Applied Sciences Berlin emerged in the 1971/72 winter semester.

University newspaper ehb.spiegel

The university newspaper ehb.spiegel has been published twice per semester since 2007 . The newsletter informs students, employees and friends of the Evangelical University Berlin about activities and events of the SFIVET.

The university is also a member of the joint project BIT⁶ (Berlin Innovation Transfer), an association of six Berlin universities for practice-oriented knowledge and innovation transfer.
