Culture and sights

The Varrel estate

Gut Varrel, a complex of manor house with barn , bakery and water mill, is closely linked to the history of the place . This was left to decay and has been restored by hand since July 9, 1980 by a citizens' initiative , the Förderverein Gut Varrel eV, and converted into a cultural meeting place. In the center is the manor house, one of the oldest surviving buildings in Varrel. It was probably built around 1800, but the exact year of construction is unknown. Not all buildings were originally at this point, some were moved here: The half-timbered barn comes from Bookholzberg, the bakery from Stiftehöfte near Harpstedt.

The house is also looked after by the Gut Varrel Association
