Sturm und Drang is a heavy metal / hard rock band from Vaasa ( Finland ).

history

The band was formed in 2004 when André Linman and Henrik Kurkiala were on their way home from a Judas Priest concert. Kurkiala's father suggested the band name, which refers to the epoch of the same name in German literature of the 18th century . After a short time, the keyboardist Jesper Welroos and the drummer Carl Peter Fahllund joined them. The first rehearsals took place in the basement of Fahllund's parents' house. After the first concerts, the musicians decided to take on a second guitarist. Alexander Ivars finally completed the cast.

A year later the band recorded the demo Rising Son . They sent the demo to the Helsinki Music Company (HMC) record company . The musicians did not take their owners seriously at first because of their young age - at that time they were 12 and 13 years old, respectively. He changed his mind after seeing the band supporting the Hellacopters . Impressed, he gave them a contract.

The debut album Learning to Rock was released on May 30, 2007 in Finland and on June 2, 2007 in the rest of Northern Europe . It rose to number three on the Finnish album charts and stayed in the top 10 for five weeks. The previously released single Rising Son also reached number three on the Finnish single charts.

In the rest of Europe, the album was released on August 17, 2007 via GUN Records .

From October 21st to November 11th 2007 they were on tour in Europe as the opening act for Apocalyptica .

On March 8, 2008, Sturm und Drang was awarded an Emma in the category Best New Band .

In February 2010, they separated from bassist Henrik Kurkiala. Joel Wendlin took his place.

In 2011 Alexander Ivars also left the band. His replacement is Jani Kuoppamaa, who previously appeared for Ivars when he was prevented from playing.
