geography
The ridge of the Suchet continues to the southwest in the ridge of the Bel Coster ( 1415 m above sea level ) and together with this reaches a length of 9 km. According to the general direction of strike of the Jura chains in this region, the mountain ridge of the Suchet is oriented towards west-south-west-east-north-east.
The Suchet in the west and northwest is limited by the valley of Jougnena (tributary of Orbe ), in the north of the Valley of Baumine (tributary of the Arnon ), in the southeast by the Swiss Central Plateau of belonging foot of the Jura plateau and the south by the deep valley Orbe. The ridge of the Suchet is characterized by a rocky steep slope facing north-west, while the south-east slope has a relatively low incline, at least in the upper part. The Bel Coster, on the other hand, forms a flat ridge more than 1 km wide.
When the weather is clear, the summit of the Suchet offers an impressive panorama over the Central Plateau to the Alps. The summit area is treeless and grassy and shows subalpine vegetation. Below about 1500 meters (especially on the Bel Coster) follow the typical Jura high pastures with the mighty spruce trees , which either stand individually or in groups. There are several Sennhöfe at these heights.
geology
The rock material of the Suchet comes from marine sediments of the upper Jurassic period ( Malm limestone ). In structural geological terms, the ridge of the Suchet forms the southern leg of the anticline of the foremost Jura range. The northern continuation of this anticline mark the Aiguilles de Baulmes . The former vault of the anticline was initially attacked at weak points by erosion and gradually eroded over time. This created an anticline valley, the western part of which is drained by the Jougnena and the eastern part by the construction mine .
