The Aiguilles de Baulmes form a mountain ridge up to 1559 m high in the northern part of the Vaud Jura , south of Sainte-Croix in Switzerland . The ridge of the Aiguilles de Baulmes is together with the east adjoining Mont de Baulmes (1285 m above sea level) 5 km long and is oriented towards the west-southwest-east-northeast.
location
The Aiguilles de Baulmes are bounded in the north by the basin of Sainte-Croix, in the east by the Gorges de Covatanne and the plateau at the foot of the Jura, in the south by the Baumine valley (tributary of the Arnon ) and in the west by the Col de l'Aiguillon pass . The ridge is characterized by the anti-south, rugged Flühe , which are usually high between 20 and 80 m. The mountain got its name because of these flues, as aiguilles (from the Latin word acus , needle ) are craggy, rocky mountain peaks in French-speaking countries. The densely forested northern slope of the Aiguilles de Baulmes is also relatively steep.
geology
The rock material of the Aiguilles de Baulmes comes from marine sediments of the upper Jurassic period ( Malm limestone ). In structural geological terms, the Aiguilles de Baulmes form the northern leg of the anticline of the foremost Jura range. The southern continuation of this anticline is marked by the Suchet . The former vault of this anticline was initially attacked at weak points by erosion and gradually eroded over time. This created an anticline valley, the eastern part of which is now drained through the construction mine , the western part through the Jougnena to the Orbe .
Hiking and climbing
From Sainte-Croix a hiking trail leads to the Mont de Baulmes and from there on (with a magnificent view) to the highest point of the Aiguilles de Baulmes. The western ascent to the highest point of the Aiguilles de Baulmes can be reached from Sainte-Croix via the Col des Etroits and Mont des Cerfs or via La Sagne near Sainte-Croix. The rugged rock faces of the Aiguilles de Baulmes are a paradise for sport climbers.
