Sudet
Sudet ( Finnish : wolves ) is a Finnish sports club from the city of Kouvola . In the course of its history, which began in 1912, the club was also based in Viipuri and Helsinki and won 14 bandy championships and the Finnish football championship in 1940 .
history
The association was founded on December 13, 1912 under the name Wiipurin Bandy & Jalkapalloseura , in German "Wiipuris Bandy and Football Association". The club soon became one of the most successful in Finland in bandy: between 1914 and 1933 the team won 14 championships. In 1924 the name was changed to Wiipurin Sudet . Sudet also achieved first successes at national level in football in the 1920s. In 1924, 1925, 1928 and 1929 Sudet reached the semi-finals of the Finnish championship. In 1931, the club played for the first time in Mestaruussarja, which was founded a year earlier, and was therefore first class. After the 1938 seasonSudet had to go back to the second division, but the team managed to get promoted again immediately. After the winter war of 1939/40, the club moved to Helsinki and took part in the game. Due to the war, the championship was played in cup mode, with Sudet making it into the final. Here they beat Turku PS 2-0. Two years later Sudet reached the final again, but lost to Helsingin Toverit 4-6. When Finland also lost the Continuation War against the Soviet Union in 1944 and Viipuri had to be ceded, the Viipuri part was deleted from the club name and replaced by the new Sudet home of Helsinki. The Helsingin Sudet commuted in the first seasons after the war between the first and second division, before from 1952 to 1961 the club played consistently in the second-rate Suomensarja . In 1962 - in the meantime the club had moved to Kouvola in south-east Finland - Sudet played in the third division, but once again made it to the second division, from which they were relegated again in 1966.
In the 1990s, the game had to be stopped. The soccer team has been playing in the fourth-class Kolmonen since 2008 . In addition to the football department, there is also a floorball department , whose men's team plays in Divisioona II, the third highest league in Finland, in 2010/11.
