Sudharmono

Sudharmono (born March 12, 1927 in Gresik , East Java , † January 25, 2006 in Jakarta ) was an Indonesian lieutenant general and politician of the Functional Groups Party ( Golkar ) . He was the fifth Vice President of Indonesia in term of 1988 bis 1993 . He succeeded Umar Wirahadikusumah in office, his successor was Try Sutrisno .

Life

Sudharmono attended the Hollandsch-Inlandsche School , the middle school (Sekolah Menengah Pertama) and the high school (Sekolah Menengah Atas) . During the War of Independence he was a squad leader in the division in Ronggolawe between 1945 and 1949 and then from 1950 to 1952 a staff officer of the Indonesian armed forces . After attending the Academy of Military Justice (Akademi Hukum Militer) in 1956, he was chief military prosecutor in Medan between 1957 and 1961 and graduated from the College of Military Law (Perguruan Tinggi Hukum Militer) in 1962 . Between 1962 and 1966 he was chairman of the Central Personnel Control Group and subsequently from 1966 to 1972 cabinet secretary and at the same time secretary of the Council for Economic Stabilization.

From March 28, 1973 to March 19, 1988, he was cabinet secretary with the rank of minister (Menteri / Secretaris Negara) and from October 1, 1982 to March 19, 1983 also Minister of the Interior (Menteri Dalam Negeri) . On October 25, 1983, he also took over from Amir Murtono as chairman of the central board DPP (Dewan Pimpinan Pusat) of the party of functional groups ( Golkar ) and kept this post until he was replaced by Wahono .

On March 11, 1988 Sudharmono succeeded Umar Wirahadikusumah, the fifth Vice President of Indonesia (Wakil Presiden Indonesia) and held this office until March 11, 1993, whereupon Try Sutrisno succeeded him. Most recently, from 1998 until his death in 2006, he was coordinator of the Pak Harto Foundation founded by President Suharto .
