Wahono (born March 25, 1925 in Tulungagung , Dutch East Indies ; † November 8, 2004 in Jakarta ) was an Indonesian lieutenant general , diplomat and politician who was in command of the Strategic Army Reserve Command between 1969 and 1970 and again from 1973 to 1974 ( Kostrad ), between 1983 and 1988 Governor of Jawa Timur , from 1988 to 1993 chairman of the Central Administrative Council of the Golkar Party Functional Groups (Partai Golongan Karya) and from 1992 to 1997 chairman of the People's Representative Council (Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat) , the House of Representatives People's Consultative Assembly (Majelis Permusyawaratan Rakyat) .

Military career

Wahono, son of R. Soerodidjojo, completed his education at the Extended Elementary School MULO (Meer Uitgebreid Lager Onderwijs) in Kediri . During the occupation of the Dutch East Indies by the Imperial Japanese Army in World War II, he joined the Army of the Defenders of the Fatherland Peta (Pembela Tanah Air) founded by the Japanese occupation forces and completed his military training in Bogor in 1943 . In 1945 he joined the BKR (Badan Keamanan Rakyat) public security authority . He participated in the War of Independence against the civil administration in the Dutch East Indies NICU (Nederlandsch-Indian Civiele Administratie) and it joined after the Indonesian Declaration of Independence of 17 August 1945 in which was founded on October 5, 1945 Indonesian National Armed Forces ABRI (Angkatan Bersenjata Republik Indonesia) a, today's Tentara Nasional Indonesia (TNI).

Most recently, Lieutenant General (Letnan Jenderal) Wahono was appointed in 1974 to succeed Lieutenant General Sayidiman Suryohadiprojo as Deputy Chief of Staff of the Army (Wakil Kepala Staf TNI Angkatan Darat) and held this position until he was replaced by Lieutenant General Poniman in 1977. Diplomat and politician

After retiring from active military service, Wahono first became ambassador to Myanmar in 1977 and was accredited as an ambassador to Nepal until 1981 . He then succeeded Tahir in 1981 as head of the General Directorate for Customs and Excise Duties (Directorate Jenderal Bea dan Cukai) and held this position until 1983, when Bambang Soejarto replaced him. In 1982 he also became president of the Indonesian chess federation PERCASI (Persatuan Catur Seluruh Indonesia) .

On August 26, 1983 he was elected governor of Jawa Timur by the General Council of People's Representatives DPRD (Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat Daerah) and thus the successor of Soenandar Prijosoedarmo . He held this office until August 26, 1988, when Soelarso succeeded him . During his five-year tenure as governor, he conducted many development programs to improve the living conditions of the people of East Java in the areas of population issues, employment, food self-sufficiency, development infrastructure, public health and education, and community prosperity. The province of Jawa Timur was appointed for these development programs in 1984 by President Suharto

After the end of his tenure as governor of East Java, Wahono acted as chairman of the central board of directors of the DPP of the Functional Groups Golkar (Partai Golongan Karya) between 1988 and 1993 and as the successor to Kharis Suhud from 1992 until his replacement by Harmoko in 1997 as chairman of the Representative Council of the People (Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat) , the House of Representatives of the Consultative People's Assembly (Majelis Permusyawaratan Rakyat) .

His marriage to Mintarsih Syahbandar in 1951 resulted in four sons and two daughters. After his death he was buried in the Kalibata Heroes' Cemetery (Taman Makam Pahlawan Kalibata) in Jakarta .
