Sugarfree is an Italian pop rock band that was formed in Catania ( Sicily ) in 2000 .

Band history

The group began its activities as a cover band in their region, specializing in classic rock , R&B and funk . In 2003 the singer Matteo Amantia joined, which is why Sugarfree began to write his own songs. With their debut single, which was released by Warner at the end of 2004 , the band achieved a number one hit : Cleptomania . She then released the first album Clepto-manie in 2005 . Second single from the album was Cromosoma .

After the band had not been admitted to the Sanremo Festival 2005 , they tried again and finally entered the race at the 2006 festival with the song Solo lei mi dà co-written by Fortunato Zampaglione , but did not make it to the final. The song found its way into a new edition of the first album. In 2008 the film Scusa ma ti chiamo amore by Federico Moccia was released , for which Sugarfree contributed the title song. The next single, Splendida , was also used in the credits of a movie, in the Italian version of James Keach's Blind Dating (released on DVD in Italy in 2008). At the end of the year the band released their second album, Argento .

In 2009, Alfio Consoli, who co-founded the band in 2000, took the place of singer Amantia again. In addition, Salvo Urzì replaced the guitarist Luca Galeano and keyboardist Vincenzo Pistone left the band. With Regalami un'estate the new line-up had a small summer hit , which was included on the EP In simbiosi . But it was no longer possible to build on the successes from the early days. In 2010, the single Scusa ma ti voglio sposare followed , which again accompanied the film of the same name by Federico Moccia.

In 2011 the band continued the collaboration with Zampaglione and released the single Lei mi amò , which was followed by the album Famelico . In the following years Sugarfree went on several tours and also released new songs. At the end of 2014 Consoli announced that they would leave the band, after which Matteo Amantia returned as a singer.
