Suitbert Heimbach

Johann Paul Suitbert Heimbach (born November 10, 1894 in Cologne ; † May 27, 1969 there ) was a German dialect poet . He wrote poetry , prose , plays and puppet shows in the Cologne language .

Heimbach grew up in Cologne-Kriel . He completed teacher training in Cologne and Brühl . From 1919 to 1939 he taught at the Kriel primary school. From 1945 to 1952 he was vice rector at the Machabäerstraße elementary school in Cologne's old town, then from 1952 to 1959 rector of the Friesenstraße elementary school. Heimbach was committed to the introduction of the school carnival to maintain the Cologne dialect. From 1956 to 1969 he worked for the “Church newspaper for the Archdiocese of Cologne”. In the 1960s he wrote plays for the amateur stage " Kumede " (comedy). He published in the magazines "Jung-Köln" and "Unser Köln", among others.

In 1923 he married Sophie Margereta Richrath (1888–1967). Heimbach died a year after their daughter Mechtild (1925–1968) died at the age of 74 in a Cologne hospital. The family grave is located in Cologne's south cemetery (hall 118).
