Wilhelm Neumann (trade unionist)

Wilhelm ("Willi") Neumann (born January 6, 1891 in Groß-Salze ; † April 17, 1963 ) was a German trade unionist ( FDGB ). From 1946 to 1955 he was chairman of a works council at the Deutsche Reichsbahn and from 1954 to 1963 a member of the People's Chamber of the GDR .

Life

Neumann, son of a factory workers' family, attended elementary school in Groß-Salze and Förderstedt and then worked as a worker in Schönebeck (Elbe) and Hamburg until 1913 . From 1907 to 1918 he was a member of the German Transport Workers Association. From 1913 to 1914 he did military service and from 1914 to 1918 military service during the First World War . In 1918 he was involved in revolutionary actions in Hanover . He then started working for the Deutsche Reichsbahn . From 1918 to 1945 he was a member of the German Railway Workers' Association and from 1920 to 1933 a shop steward in the Salbke Reichsbahn repair shop .

After the Second World War he became an employee of the Deutsche Reichsbahn in the goods handling department of Magdeburg Central Station . In 1945 he became a member of the FDGB and the Communist Party of Germany (KPD). From 1945 to 1955 he was chairman of the works council, later of the works union management (BGL) of Magdeburg main station. From 1946 a member of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED), from 1948 to 1950 he was a member of the SED district executive and city councilor in Schönebeck. From June to August 1946 he was briefly the first chairman of the trade and transport union. In 1954 he became a member of the Magdeburg District Board of the Railway Industrial Union .

In October 1954 and November 1958 he was elected a member of the People's Chamber. He belonged to the FDGB parliamentary group and was a member of the constitutional committee from 1958 to 1963.

Neumann died at the age of 72 in the early morning hours of April 17, 1963 before the beginning of the 26th session of the People's Chamber.
