action

Engineer Upendranath Chowdhury and his wife Charu are the happy parents of a daughter named Rama. One day, however, workers come by and bring a baby whose parents were killed in a cholera epidemic. The Chowdhurys, who belong to the Brahmin caste, are reluctant to take in the untouchable baby and try to get rid of it as quickly as possible.

After four years, the baby - a girl they call Sujata - is still living in their home. Aunt Giribala is a devout Brahman and can't stand Sujata at all, which she also lets Sujata feel.

Many years later Giribala wants to marry her grandson Adhir to Rama. Rama's parents are overjoyed, but Adhir has already fallen in love with Sujata. Of course, his grandmother won't accept this.

The tide turns when Upendranath's wife Charu falls down the stairs and is rushed to the hospital. Since Charu is bleeding profusely, a blood donation is urgently needed. Only Sujata's blood matches Charu's blood group. When Charu learns that Sujata saved her life, she confesses her mistakes and finally accepts her as her daughter. Now Sujata and Adhir can go their own way.
