Sukirtharani
Sukirtharani (* 1973 ) is a contemporary feminist , social activist and author of the Dalit , a group of descendants of the indigenous people of India. She has been recognized for her dedication to women and society as well as her poetry in the Tamil language , which has found its way into college curricula. German translations of her poems were created as part of the Poets translating Poets project of the Goethe Institute .
life and work
Sukirtharani completed a master's degree in Tamil literature. She works as a teacher at a girls' school in Ranipet . In addition to publications in anthologies and magazines, Sukiratharani published four volumes of poetry as individual publications. An autobiographical novel project is in progress.
Sukirtharani's poems deal with femininity and her role as a Dalit. They celebrate the female body and condemn the oppressive social system. This makes her one of the feminist poets who are perceived by the Tamil public as “bad girls”. She has published several times with other poets who are also considered "bad girls": Malathi Maithri , Salma and Kutti Revathi . The titles of their collective anthologies Wild Girls Wicked Words and Wild Words Four Tamil Poets obviously play with this image.
In Germany she was best known for her participation in the project Poets translating Poets - Versschmuggel mit Südasien . In this context, she took part in a reading tour through Germany and read among other things at the Haus für Poesie in Berlin and at the Harbourfront Festival in Hamburg . Her poems were translated as part of a workshop in Chennai and Thiruvananthapuram in December 2015, in which, in addition to her, N Sukumaran ( Tamil ), Mamta Sagar and Abdul Rasheed ( Kannada ), Anitha Thampi and Veerankutty ( Malayalam ), and Nicolai Kobus , Orsolya Kalász and Ulf Stolterfoht ( German ) participated.
