Suleiman II (rum)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Suleiman II with full name Rukn ad-Din Suleiman Shah († 1204 ) was a Seljuk Sultan of Rum and ruled between 1196 and 1204.

His father Kilidsch Arslan II divided the empire between his eleven sons in 1186. Even before the death of the father, the brothers fought fiercely for the throne. In 1192 the father died and the youngest son Kai Chosrau I came to power. Suleiman II overthrew his brother in 1196 and thus became sultan himself.

Suleiman II was able to conquer Erzurum and thus put an end to the Beylik of the Saltukids . He enlarged the sultanate and fought against the Byzantines and in 1203 against the Georgians at the Battle of Baisan .

When Suleiman II died in 1204, he had led the empire to its old strength.
