Wolfgang Demtröder

Wolfgang Demtröder (born September 5, 1931 in Attendorn ) is a German physicist .

Wolfgang Demtröder studied at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster the subjects of physics , mathematics and musicology . In 1958 he passed the state examination. In 1961 he received his doctorate from the later Nobel Prize winner Wolfgang Paul at the University of Bonn . After a stay in the USA , he completed his habilitation in 1969 at the University of Freiburg . In 1970 he was appointed full professor at the University of Kaiserslautern . He worked here until his retirement in October 1999.

Among other things, he worked in the field of high-resolution laser spectroscopy of small molecules.

Wolfgang Demtröder was best known for his standard work on laser spectroscopy and his four-volume series of experimental physics textbooks .

Demtröder was a member of the Senate of the German Research Foundation for a long time, and he was also involved in the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation .

In 1994 Wolfgang Demtröder was awarded the Max Born Prize , which is awarded by the Institute of Physics (IOP) and the German Physical Society .
