Sulfadoxine is an antibiotic belonging to the sulfonamide group .
synthesis
For the synthesis, 4-acetamidobenzenesulfonic acid chloride is reacted with 4-amino-5,6-dimethoxypyrimidine and then the acetyl group is split off under alkaline conditions.
