The Sulzenauferner is one of the largest glaciers in the Stubai Alps . It lies in the area of the highest mountain in this mountain range, the Zuckerhütl, at 3,507 m . Its impressive and distinctive wave-shaped icefall is famous . The glacier is visible from large parts of the Stubai Valley and gives the entire valley its alpine character. Since the last high level of the glaciers around 1850, it has already dramatically lost its length and thickness, and this development has intensified in recent years in particular. In 2013, the connection between the ice waterfall and the glacier tongue finally melted over a rock edge. In the tongue area, the Sulzenauferner merged with the Fernerstube , a glacier that flows down from the west side of the Wilder Liberer , until the beginning of the 21st century .
