The Great Trögler is a 2902  m above sea level. A. high mountain in the Stubai Alps in Tyrol , Austria .

Geographical location

The Großer Trögler rises in the center of the Stubai Alps at the end of the Stubai Valley . It is part of a ridge that stretches from the 3351  m high Aperen Pfaff to the northwest. In its north-west lies the Fernau valley , which flows into the Stubaital at the Mutterbergalm ( 1720  m ), and in the south-east the valley of the Sulauberach with the Blauen Lacke . To the northeast, the ridge continues over the Kleiner Trögler ( 47 ° 0 '  N , 11 ° 10'  E , 2885  m ) to the Pfaffenknollen ( 47 ° 0 '  N , 11 ° 11'  E , 2478  m ). To the southwest following Beilspitze (also Peilspitze , 47 ° 0 '  N , 11 ° 9'  O , 2820  m ) to which the 2676  m high Beiljoch connects.

geology

The Großer Trögler is made up of granite gneiss , which has a high proportion of muscovite and, due to the large "eyes" made of feldspar, is also known as "two-diminished eye and flaser gneiss".

Alpinism

The Großer Trögler is a popular vantage point because of the view of the Stubai main ridge with the 3505  m high Zuckerhütl . It can be reached from the Fernau middle station to the west of the Stubai Glacier Railway near the Dresdner Hut ( 2302  m ). Another path leads from the Sulzenauhütte ( 2191  m ) to the east over the Kleiner Trögler. Both climbs are marked, partly insured climbs . The climbs to the Beilspitze (not difficult from the way to the Dresdner Hütte, UIAA I from the Beiljoch), however, are pathless.
